Cooper Landing: Redemption after the Crummy Raft Trip

As many experienced travelers know, the best thing to do after a crummy experience is to create a good experience.  On the van ride after the rafting trip, we saw a sign for the Russian River Falls Trail.  So, after leaving the parking lot we headed that direction.  It was about 5:30 PM, but there was still plenty of daylight in Alaska!

The trail is in the Chugach National Forest, so we had to pay a few dollars admission fee.  The trail is wide and well-maintained.  The hike to the falls is about 2.5 miles.  It's a nice walk, and the waterfall is a nice reward at the end of the trail.  We whistled and clapped our hands along the way, in case bears were in the area.  We saw some "evidence" of bears along the way.

It was a long hike, but the experience helped counter our disappointing raft trip.  As further compensation, we stopped by Wildman's for some hand-dipped ice cream to eat on the drive back to Teddy's.  For the smart traveler, it all evens out.
